festival of lights

last week we were invited to celebrate the first night of hannukkah chanukah hanukkah with our friends the flores'.

we love the food tradition of this holiday and we were happy to be invited to eat participate.

they went all out and put together an amazing meal for us.  chicken, latkes, kugel (they made it because it's bobby's favorite), and salad.  it was so good.  my favorites are those potato latkes.  nothing compares to fresh made, crispy potato pancakes topped with applesauce and sour cream.  i could have eaten 20 one more.

there was good conversation, wine, and a festive atmosphere.

after dinner they brought out a menorah for each of the families.  amy explained the story behind hanukkah and why this tradition is so important to her family.

then each family got to light the first candle.

then it was time for jelly donuts and chocolate cake more celebration.
amy taught us the kids how to make an edible dreidel using marshmallows, pretzel sticks and chocolate kisses.

then we gave the real ones a spin.  we ate played with chocolate kisses and took turns putting one in, taking half, or taking them all.

it's fun to be a part of a tradition that is different from ours. we look forward to being invited back every year again.
