gratitude:: november 4
technology - yesterday andrew's class took a fieldtrip to the apple store in simi valley and i went along as a chaperone. they are working on a presentation about the mayan culture and the people at apple invited them to work on their projects in the store. they were given a lesson on how to use keynote, mac's version of power point. the kids brought a form with what each slide would look like and the information they needed to include. then they spilt off into groups and got to work. they added titles, pictures and words to each slide. when they were done they narrated their presentation and recorded it. i don't know about the kids, but i learned a lot. it was fun finding out what that program is capable of and it seems easy and fun to work with.
afterwards, the kids got to play with the iPhones, and iPod touches. thank goodness nothing broke. i was tempted by the iPad but stayed away. for lunch i took my group to corner bakery. i loved hanging out with andrew while he was in his element with his friends and his teacher, who joined us for lunch. he decided that he was going to create a tv show that would be called "84 things to do with a grilled cheese sandwich." we were all laughing. then it was back on the bus. i am so thankful to have this time to go with them on their fieldtrips and get a peek into their day. and i loved the t-shirts we all got and a free set of headphones.
