2014 weekly menu #48

made chicken posole instead of pork last week.
our busy weekends are over and now we get a little break through the holidays.  jordan took a practice sat test on saturday morning and there was a broken water line on our street that gave us a chance to hang out at my parents house for the morning.  sunday was sofia's team party, andrew had a get together with his friends and jordan went to a sweet 16 party. it sounds busy but overall it was a quiet 2 days.

this is going to be a great week.  no school for jordan, generations day tomorrow at the youngers' school and then the rest of the week off to celebrate thanksgiving and hang out with family.  bring on the turkey.

bobby is making pies again this year; pumpkin, apple and maybe a pumpkin cheesecake.  bring on the pie.

weekend eats
saturday: pb&j and kettle corn (we had a big lunch)
sunday: tacos at the team party

making this week
monday: chicken pho, spring rolls
tuesday: skinny broccoli mac and cheese (skinnytaste cookbook) , salad
wednesday: carnitas tacos
thursday: thanksgiving dinner
friday: eat out

i am truly thankful that you stop by here and read my blog. have a wonderful thanksgiving.

some things | 11.21

some thing to make | cafe du monde's cafe au lait.  i brought back some coffee from new orleans and want to brew a pot this weekend with some steamed milk. hopefully bobby can get a taste of the famous street cafe.  i also brought back some beignet mix and we may fry some up as well.  i'll need to buy a lot of powdered sugar first.

some thing to share | speaking of new orleans i have a ton of photos to share and am working on a blog post with some details of what we did.  of course i have lots of food photos as well.  will get them posted next week if you're interested in checking that out.

some thing to listen to | anyone else obsessed with the serial podcast?  it's fascinating.  i've been listening to it while i do things on the computer or around the house or in the car on the way to pick up the kids and i am hooked.  i have a serial page in my daily notebook where i take notes of names and situations so i can keep it all straight. i'm only on episode 5 so please no spoilers.

some thing to read | while i was in new orleans, actually just on the plane ride to and from, i read yes please by amy poehler and i loved it.  it's funny and touching, hysterical and emotional, light but insightful.  it made me want to watch old snl skits as she talked about what was going on in her life during that time.  i was sitting in my row on the airplane reading this and i wanted to laugh out loud at one point but had to keep it to myself.  great, and very fast read.

some thing to purchase | the super cute starbucks mugs.  i bought one for my sister in law's birthday and one for me.  they make great gifts.  you can even add a starbucks gift card with it.  and while you're there try the chestnut praline latte - non fat and no whip to cut calories. yummy!

some thing i'm working on | finishing up my some mini albums so i can get started on my december daily album.  this is one project that i have done for the past few years and love!  i'll share this year's in december.

some thing to inspire | "The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live as only you can." Neil Gaiman

have a great weekend!

2014 weekly menu #47

muffuletta from the napoleon house in new orleans
let's all take a collective sigh of relief.

{sigh}

this weekend marked the end of so many fall activities for our family. football and water polo seasons are over, boohoo but yay! jordan had his last band revue on saturday. sofia had her last softball game on sunday. and andrew attended his first high school open house on sunday afternoon.  jordan has no practices of any kind this week. and there are no school or sports activities for the kids this week.

{sigh}

last week i returned from new orleans and we survived on leftovers, quick meals and some take out.  this week my goal is to get reorganized around the house so we can enjoy the upcoming holiday season.  that means putting laundry away, coordinating our calendars, cleaning out the pantry and fridge and stocking up on holiday baking and cooking items.

{sigh}

weekend eats
saturday: sushi
sunday: mexican food

making this week
monday: pork posole
tuesday: school dine out at sharkey's
wednesday: pizza
thursday: birthday dinner with family
friday: maple glazed salmon, couscous, grilled vegetables

this week will be the calm before the storm and i'm looking forward to every minute of it.

2014 weekly menu | #45

homemade caramel apples for halloween

glad we made it through last week with minor incident. the week was a blur to me. on top of all of the craziness of halloween i also participated in ali's week in the life project.  that means i documented our adventures last week through pictures. and now i have to organize and print them all.  but more on that later.

this week i'll take a huge breather.  not that there isn't a lot scheduled, it's just the end of this busy season for us.

for now, it's all about fall menus.  soup, stews, and comfort food.

weekend eats
saturday: hot dogs at the rose bowl
sunday: salmon burgers

making this week
monday: turkey meatball and vegetable soup, bread
tuesday: taco truck after the water polo game
wednesday: creamy mascarpone and spinach linguine, green beans
thursday: pizza
friday: last home football game of the year

wishing you lots of deep breathes this week.
